Horse care level one
Essential skills
This course introduces you to the basics of horse care and because we believe every new owner or carer of horses should get their stable management knowledge off to a good and mindful start, we offer this course completely free. It provides you with information covering a range of subjects from feeding and stabling to hoof care and anatomy.
When should I rug my horse? What should I feed them? Does my horse need shoes? just a few questions new horse owners may ask themselves. Throughout this course you will be encouraged to think about what works for you and your horse. By the end of this course you will be confident in making decisions that best suit your equine partnership.
What will you learn?
By the end of this course you will have covered 29 lessons teaching how to care for your equine in a way that feels right for your partnership. You will be able to decide when and how to groom, rug, worm and generally care for your equine. You will be confident in making decisions about hoof care (shod or barefoot), stable and/or field management, and feeding. You will be able to understand and recognise equine behaviour and body language as well as signs of ill health.
Once enroled you will have access to the first of 7 modules, with access to a new module every week for 7 weeks covering a total of 29 lessons. There is no time limit to complete this course.
With a short assessment at the end of each module and tasks throughout the course, successful completion will give you the knowledge and confidence to care for your horse or pony.
